Thank you, Muna Scekomar!

MCH welcomed a St. Catherine University intern for the month of January

Working closely with our Director of Public Policy, Muna Scekomar played a large role in helping us prepare for Homeless Day on the Hill (Registration is open here: goo.gl/pjmtcU)on March 6, 2018. Her talents and dedication were amazing, and we will miss her.

“My name is Muna Scekomar and I am a student at St.Catherine University. I learned about MCH through my Global Search for Justice: Changing The Face Of Homelessness class.

From start to finish, there is a large intricate roadmap to making housing policies happen. During my experience at MCH, I gained in-depth knowledge about the public policy advocacy MCH does statewide. We finalized the 2018 Legislative Agenda as well as continued the planning for the Homeless Day on the Hill.  I was also able to attend an Advocacy fair to present with Fatima Moore, the director of Public Policy at MCH. I connected with advocates from various organizations. I was able to hear the stories of  individuals who have previously went through homelessness and were looking for ways to get involved in advocacy.

Throughout this experience, I met amazing individuals who inspired me with their dedication to help those who are in need. Their motto of not advocating for a person but rather with them showed me the humility and humbleness that is within their model of  advocacy. By working alongside them, I learned the skills and dedication required to be an engaged member of a democratic society. I am proud that an organization such as MCH exists in my city.”

Thank you, Muna, and good luck in your future!
