Fridays with Fatima Volume 12

Less Than Two Weeks Until the End of Session
The end of our legislative session is quickly approaching.  Lawmakers have ten days to pass pieces of legislation that would take care of needed infrastructure repairs throughout the state, conform to the new federal tax laws and invest in programs and systems for Minnesota’s most valuable populations. Time is ticking…
Senate Releases an $825 Million Bonding Bill
On Wednesday, May 9th, the Senate Capital Investment Committee rolled out a bonding bill that invests heavily in road repairs, statewide infrastructure, care for elderly veterans and Minnesotans with mental health emergencies. The bill allocates the following to housing:
  • $5 million – General Obligation Bonds
  • $30 million – Housing Infrastructure Bonds
  • $50 million – Permanent Supportive Housing for People with Behavioral Health Needs
The bill also adds manufactured and senior housing as new eligible uses for Housing Infrastructure Bonds (HIB). You can read the bill language here and spreadsheet here

Homes for all Bonding Rally
Many advocates came to the Capitol and rallied for #bonds4housing last Tuesday.  The format of the rally included hearing from lawmakers, community leaders, advocates, a performance from zAmya Theater Project, and a space for people with lived experiences to share how having access to affordable housing has impacted them. Check out the Homes for All Facebook page for clips from the rally!
Thank you for a great week!
