A letter from our Development Director, Clara Lind.

We’ve seen a lot this year: Community action that has sparked wins and joy, as well as the turmoil of homelessness that so many Minnesotans experience daily. Our community supporters play a key role in what we’re able to achieve each year, and we invite you to join us with your giving this season.

Minnesota Coalition for the Homeless follows the leadership of people with lived experiences of homelessness. This is where our magic comes from– when we listen and learn first, we can powerfully unite to challenge harmful systems. We trust those who have experienced the worst impacts of too few shelter beds, too little funding for affordable housing projects, and too many Minnesotans sleeping outside each night.

When we pair this experience with the expertise of MCH’s staff and partners, we see the magic happen. We know we can create the safety and stability of home for everyone.

People who have experienced homelessness, like Christina, say it best: “We need to do something for our people. We need to help everyone. We need to help each other out and lift each other up.”

This past year, we secured a historic $121 million in additional resources for shelter and housing– money that is a critical resource to bring unhoused folks to safe shelter, and to create dignified homes for all Minnesotans. That means that for each dollar donors like you give to MCH, we return $413 to the community. MCH showed up in a big way this past year for Minnesotans that were unsheltered, and we’re counting on your support again this year so we can go even farther toward our vision of ending homelessness.

A better future is possible. Shelter will save lives this winter, and the creation of safe and dignified homes can end homelessness.

Each year, it takes $140,000 in private donations to make this work possible, and every gift matters. We saw firsthand last year the magic that happened when neighbors connected their values to their giving to live more deeply into this vision for a better future. With your gift, we can work to ensure that all Minnesotans are able to create their own magic at home with the power of safety, stability, and support. I can’t wait to see the magic we create together in the new year.

Warmly,

Clara Lind
