The X Committee Moves to New Office

Well here it is in the month of May, and we just got into our own office. It feels great that now we can do many new things and have many exciting opportunities to pursue.
Working together in one place will give group members the ability to communicate more easily. In addition, we can start to have more control of our current programs and will be able to expand our reach through a homeless-run employment program and housing program, which are now being formed. It is my hope that first and foremost, we will learn how to become better advocates, focusing on becoming more involved with local and state politics. One thing is for sure, the sky is the limit.
Perhaps most important, this office has given the X Committee a home base from which the group can reassess its collective goals and figure out where it now wants to focus its energy.
On Wednesday, May 10, the Committee celebrated it’s accomplishments by sharing cake and reflecting on past successes while looking forward to the future. We would like to celebrate the opening of our new office with those who have supported our efforts thus far by holding an open house sometime next month. Be on the lookout for information about specific dates and times.
We’d like to thank those organizations that have already contributed. The Self-Development of People Fund through the Synod of Lakes and Prairies helped make renting this space possible. The Minnesota Housing Partnership has donated numerous desks, cubicle walls, tables, shelves, and filing cabinets. People Serving People has donated many office supplies. Currently, we are working on getting chairs, supplies, and other donations to keep the office and programs we are working on running.
If anyone would like to donate they can contact the X Committee directly by calling (651) 224-9292 or drop by 275 East Fourth Street, Suite 823, in St. Paul.
I and the X Committee would like to thank all of you for your support and hope to work together in the future. As Jesse Wiley has said, “The Committee has not accomplished much compared to what we’re going to accomplish now.”
