New Manual to Assist People with SSI Applications

Posted December 1st, 2005

The U.S. Department of Health & Human Services Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has recently published Stepping Stones to Recovery: A Case Manager’ s Manual for Assisting Adults Who Are Homeless with SSI and SSDI Applications.

The manual is free and available to order or download at the SAMHSA website.

People who are homeless confront unique barriers and have a particularly difficult time applying for disability programs. This new manual identifies the challenges, explains why and how they occur, and offers suggestions to case managers about how to address them.

This article was published in the December 2005 issue of The Homeless Report. Please contact the Coalition if you would like any additional information about this article, or if you have suggestions for future newsletter articles.
