Upcoming Grant Opportunities

The following are funding opportunities that might be helpful to the Coalition’s members:

  • Economic Development Discretionary Grant Program—Operational Projects
  • The purpose of these grants is to create new employment and business development opportunities for low-income individuals including at-risk youth, individuals transitioning from incarceration, and people receiving public assistance.

    Award: Total funding amount: $22,000,000; 32 to 35 anticipated awards; maximum of $700,000 per award

    Eligibility: An applicant must be a private, non-profit CDC experienced in developing and managing economic development projects; faith and community-based organizations with meet the eligibility requirements are eligible to apply

    Deadline: May 12, 2006 (4:30 p.m. ET)

  • CSBG Training and Technical Assistance (T/TA) Program
  • This program is to provide capacity-building assistance that enables local, state, or region Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) networks to plan, establish, improve or expand asset formation and financial service opportunities for eligible individuals and families.

    Award: $500,000 total available funding; 10 awards at $50,000 each anticipated

    Eligibility: Statewide or local organizations or associations that are CSBG Eligible Entities with demonstrated expertise in providing training to individuals and organizations on methods of effectively addressing the needs of low-income families and communities; faith and community-based organizations that meet the eligibility requirements may apply.

    Deadline: May 1, 2006 (4:30 p.m. ET)

  • Workforce Investment Act (WIA) – Small Grassroots Organizations Connecting with One-Stop Delivery System
  • This program is designed to help unemployed or underemployed individuals with barriers to employment by providing services that complement and support those offered by the identified One Stop Career Center

    Award: $4,000,000 total available funding; approximately 54 grants will be awarded and will range between $50,000 to 75,000 each

    Eligibility: Nonprofit grassroots organizations that have social services as a major part of their mission, are headquartered in the local community in which they provide services, have a budget of $500,000 or less or have 10 or fewer employees

    Deadline: May 2, 2006 (5:00 p.m. ET)

  • Adolescent Family Life (AFL) Demonstration Projects
  • This program provides services to pregnant adolescents, adolescent parents, and their families. Projects should, among other services, provide the following: add care services to supplement existing adolescent health services in school, hospital or other community settings; provide care services to underserved populations; continue services to clients after the delivery of the baby to enable them to acquire good parenting skills and to ensure that their children are developing physically, intellectually and emotionally; stress self-sufficiency skills; provide education on how to build and maintain healthy relationships, assure identification of mental health concerns and referral to appropriate resources; and provide awareness and prevention counseling on sexually transmitted infections and HIV/AIDS.

    Award: Approximately $5 million is available to fund 13 to 15 new projects; each project will receive a maximum of $375,000 per year

    Eligibility: Public or private nonprofit organization; faith-based and community-based organizations are eligible to apply

    Deadline: May 22, 2006 (5:00 PM ET)

  • Northwest Minnesota Foundation Women’s Fund Releases RFP
  • The Fund will consider grant requests for up to $1,000 addressing one or more of the following areas meeting the needs of women and girls including: cultural interactions, economic development, education, healthcare, and housing.

    Eligiblity: Programs must serve constituents in the following counties: Beltrami, Clearwater, Hubbard, Kittson, Lake of the Woods, Mahnomen, Marshall, Noman, Pennington, Polk, Red Lake, and Roseau

    Deadline: Monday, May 1, 2006
