Coalition Board Members Recognized
Congratulations to two Coalition board members who recently received distinguished recognition:
- Board Member Beth Holger, formerly of the Bridge for Youth and currently working on youth issues at the Minnesota Department of Human Services, received one of the 11 Virginia McKnight Binger Awards in Human Service last month for her work in re-opening Avenues for Homeless Youth in North Minneapolis. The McKnight Foundations called Beth, “a crusader for homeless youth.” The loss of a third of the city’s beds for homeless youth was a crushing blow for youth seeking shelter. Through Beth’s work, Avenues reopened in August and was filled before the end of the first day.
Board Member Patrick Wood accepted an award last month from the Minnesota Housing Finance Agency (MHFA) on behalf of People Incorporated. People Incorporated was recognized for their leadership in ending long-term homelessness. People Inc. opened two Safe Haven Houses in Minneapolis-St. Paul earlier this year that serve people experiencing long-term homelessness. Patrick and the staff at People Inc. are encouraging people to move inside where they can access mental health services and supports.
