Attend Coalition Lobby Day 2005
The Coalition’s mission is to end homelessness. Governor Pawlenty supports ending long-term homelessness. Many providers work daily to end homelessness, one person at a time. We all recognize, however, that homelessness will never end unless we coordinate our efforts.
For this reason, the Coalition invites you to join us and HousingMinnesota in making housing and homelessness prevention top priorities in the 2005 legislative session.
Last year people from the inner city, the suburbs, and greater Minnesota traveled to St. Paul to educate their elected officials about homelessness. Groups of constituents comprised of people experiencing homelessness, social service providers, and other concerned members of the community enjoyed this annual opportunity to engage their elected officials around issues of housing and homelessness.
People who have never met with their legislators love this event because they are able to do it in a group setting with people who already have. Seasoned veterans enjoy this event because they recognize the importance of constantly reminding legislators about the crucial role they must play if Minnesota is serious about ending homelessness.
This year’s citizen’s day at the capitol will take place on Thursday, March 10, 2005. We will conduct a short “how to lobby” training followed by scheduled meetings with your legislators (9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.) and a rally in the afternoon (1:00 to 2:00 p.m.).
Please register for this event as soon as possible so that we may begin setting up meetings with your legislators. Visit www.housingminnesota.org/events to register on-line, or simply call Mike Davey at (612) 879-437 or send him an e-mail.
