Classroom Curriculum
The Coalition provides a one-of-a-kind curriculum series to help teachers, young people, and their families will gain a greater awareness of the causes of homelessness and the devastating impact it has on people’s lives.
We also hope that this curriculum will be a valuable resource for your school to increase the sensitivity of staff and students, so that this school is a welcoming and caring place for those children who do not have a home.
Why is this Curriculum Important?
Across the nation, an estimated 2 million people experience homeless every year. Children are the fastest growing segment of the homeless population, and families with children constitute approximately 40 percent.
There are a lot of myths surrounding homelessness, but the reality is that–unless we start acting today–the issues and impacts of homelessness will only grow larger (and more costly).
How do I Use this Curriculum?
The curriculum is segmented into grades kindergarten to third, fourth to sixth, and seventh to ninth. Download the lesson plans appropriate for your students. The Coalition grants unlimited use to the curriculum when it is used for educational purposes.
