The Coalition empowers these constituencies to plan and implement housing policy and community homelessness responses through its many, including:
- Community Education Programs. To empower people to take action in their communities, the Coalition educates the public through community forums, the media, and educational materials. We also maintain an ongoing library of information about homelessness that we make available through a variety of resources, including publications and a Speaker’s Bureau.
- Legislative Advocacy Programs. We develop a legislative agenda each fall and advocate for it aggressively at the State Capitol. The Coalition also informs policymakers on efforts that will: 1) address the housing needs of low-income individuals and those facing barriers to securing stable housing; 2) prevent homelessness through community collaboration and early intervention; and, 3) promote services which advance long-term economic stability and respect clients’ needs.
- Technical Assistance Programs. The Coalition provides technical support to service providers statewide through Provider Forums, site visits, local collaborative efforts, an annual conference, and fax, email, and telephone alerts on state and federal policy actions which could affect and/or improve service to clients.
- Conferences & Trainings. The Coalition conducts the largest statewide conference supporting individuals and groups dedicated to ending homelessness. We also conduct special training sessions on an ongoing basis throughout the state to help professionals and advocates build critical skills.
- Special Initiatives. The Coalition has launched several special initiatives to respond to unique opportunities. Some of our recent initiatives include the X Committee, discharge planning, and homeless management information systems.
With your help, we will Bring Minnesota Home! by developing individualized, flexible resources for communities to meet their local housing and homelessness system needs.
