Education Programs
More than 20,000 people in Minnesota do not have a home to call their own.
The Coalition believes that every Minnesotan needs to know the facts and realities of homelessness. Ee have developed a broad array of community and classroom education initiatives.
Community Education Initiatives
As the only statewide agency of its kind, the Coalition endeavors to inform everyone in Minnesota about the crisis and the impacts that it is making on every community in our state. Toward this end, the Coalition:
- maintains a comprehensive library of information on trends and statistics, studies on services and solutions, and listings of articles and reports
- acts as a community resource by networking, updating, informing, and listening to other groups working on collateral issues that will contribute to our goal of ending homelessness
- assists Wilder Research Center and the state’s Office of Economic Opportunity to conduct various statewide surveys of people experiencing homelessness and direct service providers
In addition, the Coalition maintains an extensive list of web links to agencies that provide information and services.
The Coalition’s Speaker’s Bureau provides people who have experienced or are experiencing homelessness an opportunity to share their experiences with interested individuals like you.
Our Speaker’s Bureau also provides homeless service providers an opportunity to share their perspective on how to best meet the needs of people experiencing homelessness with the general public.
Members of the Coalition’s Speaker’s Bureau present on a variety of topics, including:
- healthcare
- welfare and welfare reform
- affordable housing
- mental health care issues
- homeless youth issues
- homeless vets
- domestic violence
- experiences of being homeless
Speakers can be reserved for any king of speaking event, including: schools, churches, businesses, civic groups, and any other interested organization.

Classroom Education Initiatives
The Coalition provides materials to help students of all ages learn about the causes and solutions of homelessness.
One such tool is a series of lesson plans teachers and group facilitators can use in elementary, middle school, and high school classrooms. Our curriculum can help young people and their families gain greater awareness of homelessness, as well as help schools become more effective in meeting the needs of students who are homeless.
In addition, the Coalition offers engaging videos that examine the impact homelessness has on people’s lives and their daily struggle to escape it.
