Grants Available from Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless

Posted October 11th, 2006

Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless (OYH) is a statewide grant-making organization that assists food shelves, food banks, shelters, transitional housing programs, and permanent supportive housing programs in meeting the needs of hungry and homeless people in Minnesota.

OYH attempts to distribute grants equally between food and housing agencies. Similarly, OYH tries to split total distributions equally between the Twin Cities metropolitan area and Greater Minnesota. OYH typically funds up to $10,000 for a single project grant. Organizations eligible for funding must be 501(c)(3) nonprofit and must also be in compliance with all relevant provisions of Minnesota Statutes Chapter 309.

To apply for OYH grants, eligible nonprofit organizations must also provide one of the following services to hungry or homeless persons in Minnesota:

  • emergency food assistance
  • on-site meal services
  • emergency overnight shelter for homeless persons (including battered women and youth)
  • transitional or permanent supportive housing (with certain restrictions)
