Legislative Advocacy
The Coalition’s legislative advocacy program provides a voice to children, adults, and families who are at risk of, or are experiencing homelessness, service providers and other community stakeholders dedicated to ending homelessness.
In partnership with our member agencies, the Coalition’s legislative advocacy program seeks to ameliorate the state’s homelessness crisis. Our program includes:
- Maintaining an ongoing presence in state, federal, and local policymaking. Each year the Coalition adopts legislative priorities and coordinates a statewide network of professionals and community members that helps key policymakers to understand how legislative decisions positively or negatively impact homelessness in Minnesota. People participate in the Coalition’s federal, state, and local policy work by educating their policymakers through an annual Citizen’s Day at the Capitol and other events, getting involved in their communities, and utilizing Coalition toolkits for taking action.
- Adopting policy positions. The Coalition adopts policy positions on issues challenging our state. As issues on homelessness emerge and evolve, the Coalition develops and refines policy briefs in response to challenges facing our state.
- Issuing action alerts. When important decisions are being made and unique opportunties arise, the Coalition mobilizes people across the state through timely action alerts.
- Collaborating with other groups through co-advocacy. The Coalition endorses and supports the efforts of a variety of groups working on collateral issues related to preventing and ending homelessness.
