6/4 Congressional Delegation Call - “What teachers see”

This event has occured already. Please continue to monitor this site for more opportunities to participate in Coalition events. Thanks for helping us to Bring Minnesota Home!

Minnesota school teachers will provide Minnesota’s Congressional
Delegation with first-hand accounts of how homelessness, housing
instability, and living in poor-quality housing impacts children.
Congress will be considering several issues over next few months that
could improve the lives of Minnesota children: the need for more
Section 8 vouchers, how to prevent homelessness in these tough
economic times, additional protections and/or ways to prevent
foreclosures.

Homelessness, housing instability, and living in poor-quality housing
hurt children. Kids living in such situations struggle with learning
disabilities, physical impairments, and/or various illnesses at far
greater rates than children living in more normal circumstances. The
classrooms these children learn in are also impacted, as the
difficulties do not disappear once the school day begins. Teachers
bear witness to these problems first-hand.

Co-sponsors of the call – HOME Line, the Housing Preservation Project,
the Metropolitan Consortium of Community Developers, the Minnesota
Coalition for the Homeless, the Minnesota Housing Partnership, and the
Minnesota Tenants Alliance – invite you to listen in on the
conversation.
